Homemade All Purpose Cleaner
Homemade All Purpose Cleaner for people who have other stuff going on.
I get asked about how we swing it financially. You know, a couple of kids (that would be Jordan and myself) trying to raise a couple of kids.
I had a whole lot written there and deleted it to say this: We make it work. Just like you’re making it work.
We live on a budget with boundaries, discipline in contentment, and a whole lot of love, laughter, and presence, in the midst of financial tension and ambition. Remember when I posted about our Dream being alive? It still is in our hearts…one day…
Anyway, I want to show you my “how-to”s on some of the things I do to save money, but here is the problem. I have other stuff going on. Yes, I make killer meals, and make some homemade products, but to make pretty labels and spend an hour photographing them is NOT my real life! I normally make all purpose cleaner when my stove top needs to be wiped down and I just realized that I’m completely out. I whip it up really quick so I can use it right away. I make dinner in the middle of a pretty chaotic hour of the day and then we all sit down and…wait for it…eat it. I can try to plate it pretty and snap a picture with my phone but if I do much else, it ends up cold and we don’t have a microwave and everybody is crying because I apparently starve them. (this is an exaggeration, but you know what kind of circus can unfold 5 minutes before a meal gets put on the table. Goodnight)
There is grace for you here too, mama. I do not make all of my own cleaning products. I’m a big fan of conventional windex and toilet bowl cleaner. I just decided, one day, to take one more step on this journey toward crunchy living. That’s all any of us can do. That’s all any of us are doing, just taking baby steps toward the direction we want to go.
So, in an effort to share my moves, but also remain realistic. I’m taking the pressure to be perfect off of myself. Here’s my dang homemade All Purpose Cleaner recipe. I have been using it for the better part of 4 years. I use it in my kitchen everyday. I use it in my bathrooms on Tuesdays, I use it on my cabinets, all wipeable surfaces, and even to clean my car. I don’t have a pretty label. Or a fancy spray bottle. I did photoshop some labels on there for you for pretend. I barely got a picture of it before my dude got curious and entered the scene (with one rain boot on all by himself!)
I hope you love it and make it 2 minutes before you desperately need it. I hope it saves you money. I hope it makes your kitchen smell great and makes you feel like a rock star after a long day doing the sometimes mundane, but always noble, task of caring for those you love and have been entrusted with. Go you.
Homemade All Purpose Cleaner
1 cup vinegar
3 TBS Washing soda (also in laundry soap)
3 TBS castile soap (a little goes a loooong way, so this purchase lasts a long time)
20 drops each of Lavender and Lemon essential oils
12 cups very hot water
- Mix all the ingredients in a large bowl, until the washing soda is dissolved (there will be a bubbling reaction!)
- Use a funnel to pour into a spray bottle and pour the extra into another spray bottle or some kind of back up container as a refill.
That’s all folks! Sorry I waited so long to share it. Mostly, thank you for letting me share my real actual life with you, just as it is.
